Alexander R. Galloway: The Unworkable Interface

Interfaces are back, or perhaps they never left. The familiar Socratic conceit from the Phaedrus of communication as the process of writing directly on the soul of the other has, since the 1980s and ‘90s, returned to center stage in the discourse around culture and media. Windows, doors, airport gates and other thresholds are those transparent devices that achieve more the less they do: for every moment of virtuosic immersion and connectivity, for every moment of volumetric delivery, of inopacity, the threshold becomes one notch more invisible, one notch more inoperable. In this lecture we will discuss the interface, what Gérard Genette called a “zone of indecision” between the inside and outside of media. What is a computer interface and how does it structure interaction, work, and play?

Alexander R. Galloway is an author and programmer. He is a founding member of the software collective RSG and creator of the Carnivore and Kriegsspiel- projects. He is co-author, with Eugene Thacker, of The Exploit: A Theory of Networks (Minnesota, 2007) and teaches at New York University.

Der Dokumentarfilm von Holly Tischman und Sabine Michel erzählt die Geschichte vion jungen Menschen im Prenzlauer Berg der 80er Jahre die in Eigenarbeit Kleidung und Schmuck herstellten und per Mundpropaganda verkauften. Das ganze angereichert mit wundervollen Animationen von Leif Heanzo (Portfolio unter: wallflipjack.deviantart.com).

NACHTRAG: War wirklich interessant anzusehen was das Leben doch damals für Möglichkeiten bot von denen man nie zuvor gedacht hatte. Alte Straßenansichten faszinieren mich sowieso. Die Omi war heiss :D
Einzig der The Cure Soundtrack fand ich deplaziert, ne Version mit anderer Untermalung würde wohl noch besser funktionieren. Oder gibt es da eine Geschichte zu warum es The Cure sein musste?

A better tomorrow startet einen neuen Contest mit niemand geringerem als den Kreuzbergern von Neubau.
Ja genau DIE. Wer hat noch nicht mit ihren Fonts, Pattern und Vector-Shapes gearbeitet? Gesehen hat sie zumindest schon jeder, ich will gar nicht die wissen wie weit deren Stuff durch Filesharing illegal auf unzähligen Festplatten gelandet ist, dürfte manch einem Pop-Sternchen Konkurrenz machen.

Aber hier geht es ja um den Contest!
Ich finds geil das die Thematik ein wenig engeschränkt wird. Denn ehrlich gesagt hängen mir die unzähligen Knuffelmonster Vector Bilder gehörig aus dem Halse raus, hoffentlich schafft es ein minimaler, schlichter, Ansatz (wobei ich nicht die Leistung der einzelnen Grafiker herabwürdigen will - die ist bei abt nämlich immer erste Sahne).
Noch interessanter hätte ich es gefunden wenn man sich wirklich nur auf eine, maximal 2 Farben beschränken müsste.
Wenn wirklich nur noch Form zählt (ich bin einer der wenigen Chrome/Black Anhänger - da gibts dann nix zu verstecken).
